TEDは、「Ideas Worth Spreading（広める価値のあるアイデア）」をテーマにした非営利団体です。30年前にカリフォルニアで4日間のカンファレンスとして始まったTEDは、そのミッションを支えるために様々な取り組みを行っています。年に2回開催されるTEDカンファレンスでは、世界を代表する思想家や実行者を招き、18分以内でスピーチをしてもらいます。これらの講演の多くはTED.comで無料で公開されています。TEDのスピーカーには、ビル・ゲイツ、ジェーン・グドール、エリザベス・ギルバート、リチャード・ブランソン卿、ナンダン・ニレカニ、フィリップ・スタルク、ゴジ・オコンジョ・イウェアラ、サル・カーン、ダニエル・カーネマンなどが名を連ねています。
毎年春にブリティッシュコロンビア州のバンクーバーでTEDカンファレンスは開催されます。TEDのメディアには、毎日新しいTED Talksが投稿されるTED.com、世界中のボランティアが翻訳した字幕やインタラクティブなトランスクリプトを提供するTED Translators、教育的イニシアチブのTED-Edなどがあります。また、世界各地でTEDスタイルのイベントを開催する個人やグループを支援するTEDxや、世界を変える革新的なプロジェクトや活動の影響力を高めるために世界中の人々を支援するTED Fellowsプログラムなどがあります。

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; TED Translators, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established The Audacious Project that takes a collaborative approach to funding ideas with the potential to create change at thrilling scale; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

TEDxは、広める価値のあるアイデアの精神に基づき、人々が集まってTEDのような体験を共有するために、地域で自主的に開催されるプログラムです。TEDxイベントでは、TED Talksのビデオとライブのスピーカーが融合し、深い議論とつながりを生み出します。このような地元で自主的に開催されるイベントは、「TEDx」というブランド名で呼ばれています（x = independently organized TED event）。TED Conferenceは、TEDxプログラムの一般的なガイダンスを提供していますが、個々のTEDxイベントは自主的に開催されます。(一定の規則や規定に従う)
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
